Saw VI: Should Christians Watch This Stuff?

My wife and I are fans of the “Saw” movie franchise.  We own Saw I-V on DVD, and will certainly get Saw VI when it comes out on DVD.  We went to see Saw VI last Sunday, the day before our daughter was born.  We’re psyched that the franchise will continue for at least two more installments.

I was on Facebook the day after Saw VI was released.  A friend had commented that they went to the midnight showing and thought the movie was good.  Immediately, other people made comments that, as a Christian, he had no business going filling his head with such things.  The comments were really on the harsh side.  That exchange got the wheels turning:

Should Christians watch movies like the Saw franchise?

The answer:  maybe…

I’ll tell you why tomorrow.  In the meantime, what do you think?

  1. Aaron,

I have not seen beyond IV. I think that the series is great. The gore not so much, but the story line behind the gore is good.

I do like the movies. As a Christian should I watch them… I say, if the meat I am eating is sacrificed to idols is rare and a lovely cut of meat, then it’s my business if I am going to eat it…. basically, if it causes me to stumble then I don’t need to watch it. If it does not cause me to sin then that’s my Christian freedom.

    have a good one!

    G-
