G-Vegas: Elvis Has Left the Building

There’s one fact about our move to Greenville that I want to make absolutely clear:

Aaron is leaving Discovery.  Jesus is not.

Look at that again.  Read it again.  Slowly.  Let it sink in.

A few people have asked, “What if people decide to leave when you do?  What if they decide to go to another church when you leave?”  The answer is simple:  they’re following the wrong guy.  I wasn’t nailed to a cross for their sins.  Jesus is the Lord and Head of our church, not Aaron.  If this church is built on me, then it will fail… and it should fail.  But if this church is built on Jesus, then it will succeed.

Yeah, it’s a little scary.  It’s scary for me.  I wonder what will happen after I leave.  But those fears are quickly overcome because I know that Jesus is never leaving.  He will be here long after I’m gone.  Long after all of us are gone (should He wait that long before He comes back).

So we can all have great confidence in Discovery’s future.

Because I’m leaving.  And Jesus isn’t.

About Aaron

Aaron is a follower of Jesus. He's married to his smokin' hot wife Laura and is the father of three adorable girls. He enjoys a robust cigar, a complex root beer, a good movie, writing, football, thought-provoking books, and rousing discussions about subjects you're not supposed to talk about (like theology and politics). Religious people irritate him (because he once was one). He's on a quest to find the perfect dry rub and sauce for ribs.
