Week in NC: Hangin’ Out

This post could also be called, “The Post of 10,000 Links.”  Sorry.  I love links…

Yesterday, I wrote that I’d tell you why we left on Saturday morning, but didn’t get to NC until Sunday afternoon.  We’ve been hangin’ out with some cool people, and renewing friendships that have been meaningful to us.

Saturday, we drove to VA Beach and spent the afternoon with Vince Antonucci, his wife Jenn, and their kids.  Vince is the former preacher of Forefront Church in VA Beach.  Next year, Vince and Jenn will be heading to Las Vegas to plant a church on the strip.  We also got to hang with Forefront’s new preach, Jason Bedell, and his family.  While Jason is now the lead guy, Vince will be hanging around until January to help with the transition, and then he’ll head to Vegas.  Vince and Jason are top notch guys with huge hearts for Jesus and for people far from Jesus.  And they’re crazy enough to let God send them places they never thought they’d go.

On Sunday, we headed down to the South Mills Church of Christ.  I preached at their morning service.  SMCC was the church I went to throughout college.  They ordained me ten years ago.  They’ve kept up with me ever since.  I still get regular letters from their leadership and phone calls from their minister, Ron Stuart.  They really do care about the guys they send out into the professional ministry.

I’m hoping to hang out and play some golf with Dave McCants, who will plant Two Rivers Church of Christ in New Bern, NC in late winter ’09.  I’ve known Dave personally for about 12 years, and knew of him long before that.  He’s a multi-talented guy with a huge heart for Jesus.  Greenville is about 45 minutes away from New Bern, so I’m hoping to get to hang out with Dave some in the coming years (playing some golf and smoking a few fine cigars).

There are a few more people I’d like to see, but the week is busy, and will gone before we know it.  Tomorrow, I’ll tell you about a few other things we’re hoping to do while we’re here.

About Aaron

Aaron is a follower of Jesus. He's married to his smokin' hot wife Laura and is the father of three adorable girls. He enjoys a robust cigar, a complex root beer, a good movie, writing, football, thought-provoking books, and rousing discussions about subjects you're not supposed to talk about (like theology and politics). Religious people irritate him (because he once was one). He's on a quest to find the perfect dry rub and sauce for ribs.
