New Followers of Jesus

There’s nothing more exciting in this world to me than when someone who was once far from God is introduced to Jesus and decides to follow him.  In the last ten days, we’ve had two people in our churches decide to become Christians.  Baptisms are a huge deal at Discovery, and it’s often an adventure finding a place to baptize someone.  Especially when it’s cold!

On the Sunday after Thanksgiving, our Teen church planter baptized a student named Hilary.  Most of her fellow student churchers were there, as were members of her family.  Hilary’s story is one of brokenness, and now she has found the Great Physician.  She went from no belief in God to faith in Jesus.  Here’s the video of her baptism…

Last night, our Harrisonburg church celebrated Discovery’s second “4th generation” baptism.  I baptized the planter, Reber, back in 2003.  Reber then baptized his buddy Joe this past summer.  Last night, Joe baptized his buddy (and he and Reber’s co-worker) Heath.  Heath’s story is also one of brokenness.  His first taste of the kingdom of God was at Joe’s baptism.  From there, Heath experienced Christ-centered community in our Harrisonburg church and decided to become of follower of Jesus.  His video is very “Blair Witch Project”, in that it was at night.  We thought we had a spotlight, but it wasn’t charged.  We couldn’t drive any vehicles down to the river because they would have gotten stuck in the sand.  So we turned on the night vision on the camera and hoped for the best.  It turned out pretty cool…

We’ll watch these baptisms this Sunday at our monthly Network Celebration, which is when all of our microchurches get together.  They are always the high point of our gatherings.  We scream, clap, shout, hug, and cry.  I’ve seen hundreds of baptisms in my life, and I always have a tough time understanding how many churches can watch them with so little emotion.  We can’t help but party when they happen!

Please pray for Heath and Hilary as they’ve taken their first steps as followers of Jesus.

About Aaron

Aaron is a follower of Jesus. He's married to his smokin' hot wife Laura and is the father of three adorable girls. He enjoys a robust cigar, a complex root beer, a good movie, writing, football, thought-provoking books, and rousing discussions about subjects you're not supposed to talk about (like theology and politics). Religious people irritate him (because he once was one). He's on a quest to find the perfect dry rub and sauce for ribs.

Can I just say how much I loved the video I saw at CG of Reber baptizing Joe and now to get to see Joe baptize Heath. It just doesn’t get better than this. Thanks for reminding me of that. Love…

      Hey there, Nikki B!

It absolutely doesn’t get better. Heath is our network’s second 4th generation Christian, which (when you look at what Paul says in 2 Timothy 2:2) is the beginnings of true multiplication. And when disciples start multiplying, churches soon follow!
