Jail House Rock

Yesterday I received all my training stuff for mentoring non-violent/non-sex offenders who will be re-entering society within 90 days of the start of the mentoring process.  I will be a  mentor with the Pitt County Re-Entry Program.  Got some reading to do, a video to watch at the jail, and then I’m good to go.  I may be connected with a guy who was just released and who has expressed some interest in needing a mentor.

The person heading up the program told me she was disappointed so far at the progress of the program because of a lack of men willing to mentor male inmates.  The need is glaring.  I’m hoping to recruit some dudes from down here to help with this effort.

The impact of this program could be huge.  Although we’re technically not allowed to “push” faith, we can talk about it if it is brought up.  Could you imagine converted ex-cons making disciples and leading simple churches, and going back into prisons to be mentors themselves?  I can.

Stay tuned for more updates as this progresses.

About Aaron

Aaron is a follower of Jesus. He's married to his smokin' hot wife Laura and is the father of three adorable girls. He enjoys a robust cigar, a complex root beer, a good movie, writing, football, thought-provoking books, and rousing discussions about subjects you're not supposed to talk about (like theology and politics). Religious people irritate him (because he once was one). He's on a quest to find the perfect dry rub and sauce for ribs.
