Today’s RLT Cinema feature is an interview with British comedian Ricky Gervais. This dude is hilarious. He wrote, directed, and started in the original version of “The Office” in the UK (and is scheduled to make an appearance on the US version sometime soon). In this interview, Gervais talks about his loss of faith. There are two clips from the interview in particular that I found interesting:
2:14 – 2:28
Gervais wishes that there was a God that was all-powerful and all-loving, but he cannot bring himself to believe.
2:55 – 3:30
Gervais admits to borrowing his morals from Christianity, but his reasons for being a forgiving and loving person are different from those who follow Jesus.
Are Gervais’ reasons valid? Why or why not? How should we interact with people like Ricky Gervais who have a deep longing for God, but have been convinced that he does not exist?
